When the weather report boasted several days of sunshine and above freezing temps, a zoo trip mysteriously found itself on my calendar. As members of the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, we find ourselves here more times than I can count or document! As the blog post title suggests, this isn't the first time I have made a blog post about the zoo and it won't be my last. It has been a significant place for Bruce and I since our engagement here in 2011 and as our family has grown, so have the ... continue reading...

Boo at the Zoo: A Frozen Family Costume
The Mayberry Five is back at it with a new family costume this Halloween - and you'll never guess who it is!! (Did that sound like Youtube clickbate or what?! ;) ) We've talked about being Frozen for years but it wasn't until this year that we Let it Go and went Into the Unknown. Our Frozen Halloween talk started all the way back in 2013 when we watched Frozen in theaters and realized Bruce bore a remarkable resemblance to Kristoff. Which was confirmed a couple years later when he won a prize ... continue reading...
Boo at the Zoo: A Classic Halloween
This year the Mayberry Five (I guess that is what we call ourselves these days) dressed up like classic Halloween! Hilde really wanted to be a ghost this year, and as much as I tried to convince her otherwise, she stood her ground. Now that I think about it, this happened last year too - Hilde wanted to be Tinkerbell so the rest of us fell in line ;) HAHA! I guess she just has that leadership gene! So with Hilde as a ghost, the rest of us started brainstorming other classic Halloween costume ... continue reading...
A full roll of Ilford HP5+ 400 at The Zoo
I was going to include these photos in a post called "The Zoo on Film" but we already had photos from three rolls (all color) and these ones felt like they needed their own post. Plus there wasn't a throwaway photo from this roll (which is a first for us) and I felt like we should just make it a post of it's own and show off all the fun black & white photos from this day at the zoo! April 2022 The Details Ilford HP5+ 400 || Nikon F5 || 28 mm f1.8 Film is a funny world. So ... continue reading...
Boo at the Zoo 2020
I was nervous that Boo at the Zoo might not happen this year. With COVID and closures, it just felt like a tradition that we were going to have to skip. I waiting and waited seeing if the zoo would open up tickets ... I waited. I waited. I waited. And then they released tickets! So I snagged some at the perfect time on a day that would work nicely for our family. As the day approached the weather forecast for that day just got colder and colder. It was cold. And the coldest night ... continue reading...
A Trip to the Zoo
While my sister was in town, we did a lot of that newborn stuff. You know - sitting around nursing babies, changing diapers, scheduling outings around nap times, sucking boogers out of noses, and trying to protect the infants from the toddler. A lot of it took place at home (like these cousin photos) but we also tried to adventure out on our own each day so as to not go crazy at home. We went to the zoo with our three littles (and my mom). It was nice to have one-on-one defense on one of my ... continue reading...
Boo at the Zoo
Family costumes year 2 and we're back at Boo at the Zoo! Last year I remember thinking that Hilde would probably be walking by this year's event and she was! You can see a very confused Piglet in most of these photos and I think it's adorable! She waddled around and held out her pumpkin for candy but couldn't figure out why people kept giving her stuff - also why dad and I kept taking treats back out of her bucket and eating them! Can you guess our family theme?!? Winnie the Pooh! I am Pooh ... continue reading...
Boo at The Zoo
Boo! We are zoo members at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo and have been for years but we haven't gone to Boo at the Zoo until now because now we have a kid. It is pretty much the best excuse to trick-or-treat! We dressed up as Harry Potter characters. This isn't the first time we've done this, Bruce and I were Ron and Hermione one year. What, we like HP, so sue us! haha. This year we have a third and she is about the size of an owl. When I saw this consume at Target, I knew she would be Hedwig! Making ... continue reading...

Thank you buybuy BABY for sponsoring this post! We've been trying to go on short walks everyday to help me recover and get out of the house but we finally went on our first "big" walk by going to the zoo! If you have been around the blog for a longer amount of time, you would know that we love the zoo. Bruce and I have lots of memories at this place. We even got engaged here! We have had memberships to Cheyenne Mountain Zoo long before kids but we just officially renewed our membership to be ... continue reading...

HomeSchool: The Preschool + Kindergarten Years
Ask Elizabeth: What's the homeschool curriculum you use? And did you use one for toddler / preschool age? Any tips for creating rhythms and discipleship moments for kids ages 2 - 6? I was asked this question several different ways this week - in person and online - and I thought it a very fitting Ask Elizabeth to tackle right now. In many ways I am still in the middle of this toddler/ preschool season of homeschool, but we have also been doing it for a couple years now! Hilde is my oldest at ... continue reading...
Creating Albums for your photos & why I make a Family Yearbook
Ask Elizabeth: How to you go about printing photos for yourself? Is there a method to the madness? I want to make albums but not sure how to start! How do you organize them? What a fun question! I am excited for this blog post. Printing photos and making memory books for our family is one of my favorite things to do with the crazy embarrassing amount of photos I take! I print family photos for frames around the house (like this), I print them small and use them for bookmarks or pinned on the ... continue reading...
Goodbye 2022: Looking Back
Are you still in the mood for reflection posts? I know January is nearly over, but I actually feel really good about hitting publish on this one before the end of the month! I used to put a lot of pressure on myself to have posts like this go live on New Years Eve, followed by the resolution post on New Years Day. But God has been teaching me a lot these days about slowing down, prioritizing well, and trusting that a job (or post) well done is better than a post "on time" (whatever that means ... continue reading...
2023 Christmas Season In Photo
In the upstairs loft of a barn, on a cold December night, my girls climbed onto his lap. His beard was real, his coat scarlet, and a pair of round glasses perched perfectly on his nose. He felt more like an artist rendering in an old storybook than the plastic Coca-Cola Santa we are used to at American malls. "What would you like for Christmas?" the kindly old man ask my oldest. "A headband!" she replied. I suppose it was the first thing that jumped into her head when confronted with the ... continue reading...
Two Months
Since I don't use Instagram anymore but I am a sucker for tradition, I am moving my monthly posts over to this platform. YAY! Maybe these posts will be short and sweet like the ones I did on Instagram or maybe I'll write longer, rambling on as one does, since I am no longer limited by character counts. I guess we will see as we go. But look! I did do a "two month" blog post for Millie too! I'm writing this post with this little guy strapped to my chest. He hasn't been good about wrap naps for ... continue reading...
Faith, Trust, & Pixie Dust
.... and the family costume is, PETER PAN! We threw out several ideas leading up to October and we were having a hard time picking which idea to move forward with & start creating. We always love a good family costume and have done Winnie the Pooh, Jurassic Park, Harry Potter, & Wayne's World in the past. And I always love time to thrift, make, find, and create some homemade-ish Halloween Costumes for us so we typically start the Halloween Costume ideas early! The year we did Mickey's ... continue reading...
