Motherhood, Our Daily Moments

Our Daily Moments January

#thedailymoments January 8th, 2019

Hilde Joy is 2o weeks old today. How it has been that many weeks since I was pregnant? I have NO idea. One of my favorite Instagramers @steph.pollock has a fun series called #thedailymoments and we joined in this week! Our days are a lot of naps, snuggles, laying around, nursing, and snuggling. I notice it even more when taking photos of the day – so many repeat activities! But I love noticing these details and these little moments. Our days may be simple but they are also so darn meaningful.

1 & 2: Hilde is our alarm clock these days waking us between 7-7:30. Bruce changes her and brings her to me where I nurse in bed and we all hang out for a little bit. Photo #2 is called “Mornings #amiright?!”

3,4, & 5: Breakfast for mama. I make a pour over or fresh press and a bowl of oatmeal every morning. I like routine and I like eating the same foods. My goal is to be able to eat my oatmeal before I have to nurse again and put her down for nap #1. It doesn’t always happen but today it did!

6 & 7: Waking up from our first nap of the day! I love when I undo her swaddle and her arms fly up to stretch! It is one of my favorite things she does EVERYTIME and I don’t want to forget it.

8,9,10 & 11: Getting dressed for the day. This usually happens after first nap but it also depends on if/when we have plans that day or if she pooped on her jammies ๐Ÿ˜‰

12, 13, 14, & 15: Hanging out on mom & dads bed while I get ready for the day. Normally she is pretty happy and content when she wakes up so I am able to let her just hang out!  Jumper & Bow.

16, 17, & 18: Meeting friends for coffee. I make it a goal to get out of the house at least once a day. It doesn’t have to be a big outing, just an outing! These two girls (and soon to be three) are some of our favorites to hang out with! That new bow came from a bag of things I brought for baby girl #2 coming next month! We love to pass around all the baby stuff.

19: In the car. Hilde loves the car and almost always falls asleep when we’re driving!

20 & 21: Walk with dad! We love being able to go on walks with dad during his lunch break.

22 & 23: Sitting in her new chair while mama gets some emails answered. Seat & Teether.

24 & 25: Hanging out in our diaper after our millionth diaper change of the day. 4 o’clock until dad gets off work are always some of our hardest / fussiest times. I’m pretty sure she just gets done with hanging out with me ๐Ÿ˜‰ We still make the most of it. I just have to plan on not being able to do anything but snuggle after 4 pm!

26: Nap in carrier while mom makes dinner. That last nap of the day has to be in the carrier because she needs extra snuggles. She goes down for her other naps pretty well but this nap always starts with fussy cries and I have to bounce her around to get her to doze off.

Some Tips for Capturing your Daily Moments:ย

1. Leave your camera out all day and bring it room to room with you.

2. Find the light. I’ve been asked how I get bright photos all day and I do it by finding the light. I follow the light to different rooms in my house, especially in the winter! Also, I open all the curtains and even doors (that is why we have screen doors. haha) I also bump the ISO and lower the shutter speed and f-stop when it is still too dark.

3. Use self timers, mirrors, or spouses to get in the shot.

4. Have fun.

5. Don’t worry about messes or the way things look. Just capture your reality. It’s fun that way! These photos are not to be perfect. These photos are for you!
