I can honestly say my second trimester flew by in a way that my first trimester did not. The sickness, fatigue, and secrets made those first weeks drag on. Once my second trimester hit, I started getting back into the swing of things, traveling like a crazy person, and blogging consistently! While in never really feels great to have your stomach stretch and have a child pushing on your badder, I have been much more myself and much more comfortable than my first trimester. It is a gift really, I wasn’t sure if I would be able to make it through this whole pregnancy if I stayed feeling the way I felt my first trimester!
Continuing on with the theming of my first trimester post (and in an attempt to document my life and this pregnancy) I am going to share with you the milestones and markers that made up this second trimester! I also opened it up for questions so I will be answering your questions later on as well! Get ready for a long one 😉

We announced we were having a baby! I had ideas of how we may do this but after feeling so sick in the first trimester I had nothing planned. I knew we were going to Disney World so I packed the ultrasound photo in our luggage just in case. We had some free time so I wandered the stores trying to find another prop for the photos. We settled on Mickey hats for us all – including the baby! We fought the setting sun as my little sister took photos of us in front of the castle! And that was that!
I posted on Instagram at a random time and quickly got the most comments and likes on a photo ever. It was so fun to celebrate this special season with so many of you!

Bruce & I couldn’t wait to find out the gender of our baby. I remember those last weeks and being so impatient. I have no idea how you mamas who wait until birth do it! As the date of our anatomy appointment came closer, I answered a bunch of old wives tales to see if they worked to predict the gender. Boy was the winner and honestly both Bruce and I went into the appointment expecting to hear that news.
We were wrong, the ultrasound tech told us the news – it’s a girl!
Seeing the ultrasound of our growing baby was unlike anything I’ve experienced before. We saw our little baby on the big screen while the tech moved around and took all the measurements. Her mouth was open nearly the whole time and she kept putting her hands up by her face – aka she is 100% my daughter! haha. At this appointment we learned she was growing healthy and also in the 80th percentile for her age. We’ve got a Mayberry on our hands!
I’ve had much more energy in the second trimester than the first so life started back at a normal place (for the most part) and my belly just kept growing! You’ve probably noticed that the blog posts are flowing in again as are the trips and projects! Now that I am entering the 3rd trimester it is time to finalize and finish a lot of those things to get ready for our little girl!
Since I wasn’t super great about taking bump pictures each week… here are some of my favorite IG stories of the second trimester. First off, I love how fun and carefree IG stories are and secondly, it is so fun to see my bump grow through these pics!
QUESTIONS
Are you going on a babymoon?
Yes! We were not able to go anywhere super far (we’re saving our vacation days for a trip after baby!!!) but it looks like we are going to be able to spend a weekend in Golden, Colorado at The Dove Inn! We are so excited to get away to a beautiful Colorado mountain town (not a far drive from us) and just enjoy a weekend away together! Don’t worry, I’ll take lots of photos to share!!
Have you had any lower back pain? If so, what have you done about it?
Yes! As this bump grows, I’ve been feeling the strain on my back. I’ve always had back problems so I expected this could be an issue. Here are some things that I have done to help releave the pain naturally (because I don’t want to be taking tons of meds!)
- Go to the Chiropractor (mine specializes in pregnancy!)
- Stretch! This Pregnancy Yoga video is great for stretching out and loosening up my back!
- I got the Belly Bandit Upsie Belly to help with back pain for around the house and it has been wonderful! I highly recommended it!
- Warm showers. Sometimes a good warm shower to loosen up my tight muscles helps my back feel better too!
What did you start doing in the 2nd Trimester to plan?
Gah! I started doing a lot in my second trimester. Like I mentioned above, I finally started feeling better so I was able to start thinking and planning for the pregnancy with a clearer mind. These are things I did:
- Create my baby registry
- Shop for maternity clothes
- Start moving the whole house and getting our bedroom & the nursery ready
- Pin all the things related to baby!
Have you picked a name? Are you telling?
Yes! We have picked a name for our daughter! And yes, we are actually telling! haha. A lot of our friends and family already know. I haven’t spilled the beans here yet because I am waiting for a fun way to do that! lol. Don’t worry – it’s coming up!
Whew, that was long. I’m just trying to make sure I document everything well so that I can look back on all this when I forget what it was like to be pregnant! It is also so fun to share this journey with you. Here’s to the third trimester! Any thoughts/ stories from your second trimester or advice for the third?
