I’ve never been so proud of a room before – I’ll just start of the post like that! HAHA! After years of second hand, pieced together spaces, hat piles, and dressers from high school, we finally created a room that feels put together, restful, and functional (see original inspiration board.) Everything has a place – even all the hats Bruce is famous for wearing. The room is clean and bright. And I know exactly where I am going to put the bassinet for those first few months with miss Mayberry.
My first reaction to this perfect room is to wonder why it took us 6 years of marriage to create. But I already know the answer to that question. The answer is simply that we couldn’t afford any of this. I bought that $49 mirror from Target and didn’t bat an eyelash but 6 years ago, 4 years ago, 2 years ago – the story would have been different. Not to say that we are currently rollin’ in the dough, but as we’ve grown in our marriage, we have also grown in our jobs and our businesses. What once was an unnecessary expense (like matching furniture, fiddle fig trees, and pretty mirrors that look good on Instagram) is now something that we choose to invest in to create a more peaceful environment.
Bruce and I put up with a lot of oddities about our house and our possessions. We didn’t need much in our small bedroom (that we put in the guest room) and we pretty much neglected that room for years. We worked on other spaces, finishing the basement and updating the living-room (it’s gone through a lot of looks!) But with a baby on the way, it was finally time to make our room an oasis. To create a space where everything had a place, a purpose, and looked good.
We also needed to find a place for my office now that one room will be for baby and we made that space fit in the closet! A lot of you have been asking about where my “cloffice” fits into the room layout and hopefully these photos give you some perspective. It isn’t much but it is PERFECT for what I need. I can close the curtains once work is done and also be able to easily work while our little girl is napping! If you are wondering, that is a sit/ stand desk. I also have an exercise ball that I use to sit on when the desk is lower!

i absolutely adore how your room turned out! It’s so bright and fresh + I love the lilac curtains. Ours is currently in progress + I’m loving working on it! It’s currently my favorite space in our house!
xo, Sincerely Colleen
Love it! And I love the dresser! We bought a set ooh, eight years ago now and while it’s not what I would pick now, I love feeling like my bedroom is somewhat cohesive. I spend a lot of time there – it’s where I go to relax – so I totally get wanting it to be an oasis!
This looks great! I love the brightness and the calmness of your bedroom! Our bedroom is in progress right now and I can’t wait until it’s done!
Beth! It’s so great! Love how you have transformed your space and I love your office area!
Thanks so much Sam!! It has truly made such a difference!
I love the way you hung the hats and bags on your wall! That is a genius idea! We just bought a house last fall and our master bedroom is in need of a makeover. (Fresh paint, new carpet, adult furniture instead of IKEA!) It’s on our project list but we seem to be focusing on the main spaces like living and kitchen for the time being!
It looks so good!! We are also in that phase where we can start choosing nicer pieces and starting to replace our cheap mismatched Target furniture as we go. I’m excited that the first room we’re doing this with is the baby’s nursery, then we’ll move on from there with time. I wish our bedroom felt as light and airy as yours! And I love the way you’ve tucked your office space into the closet. That is a great use of space!
I like the office space! That gives me some ideas!
Your master looks perfect! Love the office in the closet space & how you hung hats / bags + art that is meaningful to you guys!
It’s beautiful! I love how you made your office space functional without it directly impacting your guests.
