April 4th, 2021
Well would you believe that this post is one year late? It is! Welcome to Easter 2021. In typical Easter fashion, I have added photos to this post and left it in the drafts for nearly a year. While Hilde’s Easter Baptism was hard for me to write since it was packed with so much processing and theology over infant baptism, this one was hard because of COVID. Millie was supposed to be baptized in 2020 on Easter Sunday but lockdowns happened in mid March and we didn’t think it would actually stick but it did. We worshiped & celebrated the Lord’s resurrection at home that year. No baptisms, no group communion, no passing the peace as we shake hands of those around us (but I did post this post!) I was so excited for how things had worked out – Easter was the first baptism date on the calendar after Millie was born and we just though it would be so special to also do it on that day so she could share that with Hilde. And honestly so crushed when it didn’t happen.
The pandemic went on and our church (like all the others) tried best to navigate what that would look like moving forward. January 2021 was the first date that baptisms were offered in person again but at that point, we decided to just wait until Easter to continue the tradition and keep our original plan (my heart gets pretty set on things.) Unfortunately, by this time my dad was also a pastor at a local church (Bruce’s dad is on staff with our church) so he couldn’t come to her baptism. But he did get to watch it later and he is still very much part of raising our Millie girl in the faith!
The other hard thing about these photos are the masks. I said this in my Disney 2020 vacation post, but I just don’t like not having all the faces in these memories. It is a reflection of the times but not my favorite look. Our faces tell so much of the story and is one of the reasons I love photography but I’m posting them anyway because these are my memories and this was the reality.
We attempted some family photos after church & outside with smiles but toddlers be cray! Haha! And then went home to open our Easter Baskets & take a quick nap. After that we met up with family for an Easter dinner and egg hunt. The girls were still a little little but they loved it all the same!
That was our Easter last year and I am glad these photos are finally up on the blog. These are the memories I want to look back on years from now!
