Cheers! Millie is one. And just like that the year flew by! Partly thanks to COVID and partly just the realty of life. Like they always say, the days are long but the years are short! Millie turned 1 along with the changing of the New Year to 2021 so we thought we should just embrace it and do a New Year’s theme! It also was a great excuse to get all the Christmas decorations put away!
Millie’s first birthday looked different from Hilde’s fist. One being the difference between a Summer baby and a Winter baby, but also that darn COVID limited the guest list. It was still just as special and as sweet, but I love a big gathering of all our friends and family!
We invited family and it was honestly a good amount of people to hang out in our house. Winter birthdays naturally carry a different feel – the sun sets earlier, the weather is cold & crisp (not ideal for a backyard BBQ), and there is a warmth of gathering with your loved ones.
I ordered balloons from Party City ahead of time for the party. It worked remarkably well! I didn’t even have to go to the store! I just arrived and they came out with the balloons all full and packaged up. Which not only made it easy for me to bring them from the car to the house, but also protected them from the snow flurries that day. We didn’t get helium balloons for Hilde’s first birthday but we did for her second and I just think they are worth it! We honestly spent about the same amount of money as we did on the balloons that we blew up for Hilde’s first birthday! The girls are still playing with the balloons now – those number balloons hold helium forever!
You may also noticed that we wallpapered a wall in our dining room and added baseboards making it one of the only completed rooms in our house. 2021 is the year of baseboards – fingers crossed 😉
I got the hat, the pom-pom garland, and the cake topper from Etsy. I may make the hat a tradition because HOW ADORABLE IS SHE?!? The decorations I picked up from Target clearance after New Years (haha!) And I put my Calendar Girl on display just like I did for Hilde’s. I’m also going to make this a tradition! Millie’s dress is from Old Navy and I really think it pulls the theme all together!
And now here is Millie’s cake smash. Not a lot of smashing or eating going on. BUT her big sister did graciously offer her cake eating services and mom finished the rest of the slice! I’m jsut cracking up because Hilde went to town and Millie seriously didn’t want any of her cake. And I promise it was good – it was the Raspberry Cake from Nothing Bunt Cakes!
Thankful for family and cousins and time to celebrate our Millie Bea. She is such a gift to us all and we cannot imagine our lives without her!!
