It’s no secret that I’ve really been missing the snow these year. But it’s not just me, it is all of Colorado. Today I got a news alert that we are under a Red Flag Warning – aka high winds and dry, dry everything is a high fire danger. In a season that traditionally gets most of our moisture for the year that is not a good sign. Many are worried about another summer filled with forest fires and I’m kind of one of them. In 2012 the Waldo Canyon fire flew over the hills into our city and I was evacuated before I could even go home. It’s hard to explain but it was kind of like a zombie apocalypse – all lanes were heading out and moving at a snails pace, orange ominous clouds filled the sky and made visibility low, and I had to use my windshield wipers to brush off falling ash. I thought I might just die that day and living through that really affected me. But without being so dramatic, snow also makes the city look so pretty and without it, everything is brown. Let’s all pray for a snowy next couple months 😉
All that to say, when it DID snow I was just over the moon even about the little we got! haha. It was COLD and WINDY that day but we braved the weather because I needed proof for my own heart that it did in fact snow this winter. Also, I bought my first ever long coat (my previous ones only went to my waist like this one ) and it is a game changer. It’s like I am just wrapped in a giant blanket – what more could you want?!
Truth be told, we only lasted like 10 minutes before I hopped back into the car and cranked the heat but the pictures were so worth it!
I remember the droughts in the Springs. We lived there for three years. Like you said though, the snow is so beautiful though! Going to Garden of the Gods and seeing it blanketing Pikes Peak was so magical.
Yeah!! Love the snow!! I love that you used to live here! It is the best!
