Colorado Stars

stars-302

Guys. The universe is crazy. Like mega huge, stunning, blow your mind crazy. Like sometimes when I think too much about space and the stars and the galaxies and the universe my head starts to hurt crazy. When we were up in Buena Vista, we couldn’t get enough of the Colorado stars. Each night they came out big & bright – stretching forever and reaching so deeply. We got out out camera and let ourselves play around with the night sky.

Photography is a funny thing. It’s an attempt to tell the story of the moment so that other eyes can see and so that those there can remember more vividly. But how do you really caputre the feeling of the moment? The cool breeze that made us pull our hands up into our sweatshirts while we waited for the camera timer – the roar of the river breaking the silent echo of the night – dimly lit paths & the crunch of Chacos – gasps of awe when we would see a shooting star – the conversations about constellations, life, and deep space.

We tried to capture that moment, those stars. It was fun and while they are nothing in comparison to the real thing, they still tell a story and I’m still glad they are mine.

Beautiful!! May I ask, what were your camera settings to capture this? 🙂

These photos were on a tripod at various super low shutter speeds. We also used a timer so that the pushing of the button wouldn’t shake the camera (that can happen with the shutter speed is super low). we had lower f-stops & high ISO and then set the focus to infinity on the lens.. We really just played around with each picture to see what we liked and what we didn’t!!

Incredible! I’ve wanted to try long exposures like this but I’ve never had the opportunity. I guess I need to make my own opportunity!

Beautiful pictures, Beth! They bring back memories of those few days we joined your family at Buena Vista. I remember not wanting to go to bed because I just wanted to sit and watch the shooting stars. That’s hard to find where we live! Amazing!

Thanks Aunt Noreen! The stars out there are incredible. Even we don’t get stars like that here in the Springs!!

I agree with the others . . . These pics are absolutely amazing. Looking at the creation tells us a whole lot about the Creator, doesn’t it?

Thanks Dad! I so agree. I love thinking about how the creation is groaning out for redemption too – and about how dreamy the new heaven and new earth are going to be!!
