I’m sure I am not the first one to tell you that you need a blog mission statement but you may need to hear it again. If you are anything like me, I heard it all the time and kept putting it off to the side. I’m telling you now, (as someone who finally took the time to do it) it is so important to have a blog mission statement because it drives your brand providing direction and purpose. It becomes a map that alerts you if you are veering off course and it provides boundaries to keep your brand unified and strong.
As a lifestyle blogger, I felt like I didn’t need a mission statement because the term “lifestyle blog” meant I could blog about whatever I wanted whenever I wanted -right? Well, actually wrong and that is a post for another time, but a lifestyle blog without direction is floundering and will struggle moving forward. just because you are a lifestyle blogger doesn’t mean you don’t need to define your focus and brand.
Today is the best day to get things done (unless it is not and then just pin this post for a good day) so take some time to sit down, write, reflect, and define!
CREATING A MISSION STATEMENT
STEP 1: WRITE IT OUT
STEP 2: CROSS IT OFF
STEP 3: COMBINE THINGS
STEP 4: FIND CONSISTENCY
STEP 5: FIND THAT OVER ALL FEEL & DIRECTION
I did this exercise and I wrote down that I am passionate about community, living abundantly, and living a creative lifestyle. To me that fits it all that I talk about. Not just the categories but the way I talk about each topic and each post. I want to encourage myself and others to be creative in their homes, in their clothing, and in their blogs (and just in anything they can create.) I want to encourage abundant life because Christ came to give us that – so cultivating thankfulness, taking care of our minds, hearts, and bodies, adventuring, and getting to know the Lord deeper fall under that. Community of course is all the people in my life – in the blog work and in my real world. I want my blog to be a safe place where people belong.
That’s it!! If you did all five steps you now have a mission statement for your blog! (YAY!) Like I said, this is more for you than anyone else. You don’t need to post it everywhere and make sure other people memorize you mission statement. You can if you want, but this is more to be a guideline for you and everything you ever post about, the bios you write, and the posts you make on social media.
Do you have a mission statement for your blog? How did you come up with it? Do you think they are important? How do you find direction for your blog? I would love to hear from you on your journey!! For more Blog Tips, click here!

This is something I really need to do! Thank you for laying it all out for us. I’m going to work on this today at some point!
YAY! I am so proud of you!
I love the idea of a mission statement. As my blog has changed since I began, I feel like I need to revisit my statement. I also think in many ways it is a good idea to have a mission statement for your life. Otherwise, it is way too easy to simply float around without direction.
So true! I love that. We need direction for life in general too! I love that! And yes, I think it is totally okay and wise to revise our statement over time!
I really love this. I’ve been working on trying to find a more solid “brand” for my blog, and stuff like mission statements has been something I’ve been mulling over. This is really helpful.
I am so glad this was helpful! and I am really excited for you to define your brand !!
Wow! I loved this blog post. It was super informative & also very easy & upbeat to read. I love all the tips & tricks you provided. I think it is essential for every blogger to have direction and purpose. It keeps holds the blog (and the blogger) together when things are starting to go off the rails.
I believe I have a mission statement for my blog, but as a new blogger I am still developing my purpose each & every day.

I am so glad that you were encouraged and inspired by this!!! You got this girl!!
These are great steps to finding a mission statement. Since we actually have a business with a product, it was one of the first things we did:
“Encouraging and inspiring Christ-followers through hand-lettering and design, inviting you to share in our lives as we create daily reminders of grace.”
It’s kind of vague on what we are going to blog about, but we knew going in that we were only going to blog about a limited number of topics (or categories).
Yes! So true. I love that! It really is perfect and will help you stay focused! Mine is vague too but still creates direction!
I just stumbled upon your blog, and it is a great resource for newbie bloggers like me! Definitely trying this out!
Stop by 🙂

Yay! I am so excited for you! Let me know how it goes!
I love this! Remember when I rewrote my mission statement like a million times this summer, ha!
Yes! So perfect!
I JUST created a mission statement for my blog:

Honestly, it gave me a lot of clarity as to where my blog is and where I hope to go. For so long, I relied on trying to find the perfect tagline to sum up everything my blog was about, but it was just never enough!
beth, this is perfection (seriously).
I often find myself making lists of ideas for blog posts, and then see how random they are (which can totally be ok – because it sparks inspiration). but i’ve realized over time, it’s OK to really start narrowing things down.
i definitely plan to do this process this season to start 2016 off with a bang!
Girl! I get it! and I still write super long lists and end up crossing off things that just no longer fit. It is okay not to always blog about all the things! I am so excited for you and the new direction and big bang exciting things of 2016!!! HAHAH!!! Love you girl!
I came across this at just the right time. I can’t wait to zone in on what I want with the blog. Thank you for sharing this wonderful advice!
YAY! You’ve got this! I am so excited to see what you come up with!
