I’ve lost count of how many Stitch Fix boxes that I have opened, but my last box turned out this top and it is beautiful. It was instantly brought into my capsule wardrobe. I have shared about it a bit here before but Stitch Fix is a great way to help you build a capsule wardrobe!
I am very picky these days about what I let into my closet. There was a long time of my life that I was not that way and I wasted a lot of money on clothing I never wore. My closet rules are as follows:
1. I LOVE IT
2. IT FILLS A VOID
These two rules are so important to me because for a long time my only rule was “IS CHEAP” and I ended up buying a lot of cheap crap that I didn’t love or need. I wasted money buying a shirt with a weird fit that I never wore, pants that were too lose/too tight, and dresses that I could only wear certain ways. When you look at your closet, finding an outfit should be easy. It should only have clothes that you feel confident in and those clothes should make outfits. It is simple really but also weirdly hard to do.
That is where Stitch Fix comes in. My personal stylist reads my notes (which is where I talk about the things in my closet that I am missing that would help me complete outfits) and then they send me a box! If this is your first (or more but you still are confused) time hearing about Stitch Fix, you need you read this post on all the gooey details! It is really one of my favorite services and I am sure I will continue using it forever because it is just that amazing. I just want to dispel a quick myth, Stitch Fix can be monthly but does not need to be. I do not get monthly boxes, so no need to fret about an excess of clothes entering your closet!
When I open my box, I try on everything, keep what I LOVE (read: I have no gripes about it and it fits me perfectly.), and I send the rest back for free! With this last box, I had a list of some things that my closet is missing with a huge emphasis on work appropriate but functional pieces! This top was interesting but I put it on and couldn’t take it off – seriously. I wore it on our date the very next day. Just what I needed – totally work-y and real life-y!
Best news, when you get your box it not only comes with new clothes, but also ways to wear them! I love and collect the cards that Stitch Fix sends each month! It helps you see how you can mix and match and plan outfits! It will also show you what type of item you might be missing (like if every card includes a pencil skirt or skinny jeans)

Oh, and there is my sexy date man! He is the man behind the camera of all my “photo shoot” posts and his name is Bruce. Like the shark in Finding Nemo.
WHAT ARE YOUR SHOPPING RULES?
You look so cute! It looks so beautiful where you are! I love finding high quality pieces that I love at a killer price. That's one reason why I love TJ Maxx because I can find really fun items. I'm also really weird about short sleeves. I prefer razor back tanks or long sleeves.
You probably don't have an ugly back 😉 or bra issues. HAHAAH
Thanks! That is the Broadmoor! It is a really pretty place in the springs!
This top is so cute, and it really does look so practical and easy to wear! One of my new rules for my closet is that I don't require a specific set of things in order to wear a single item (like a shirt that needs a specific tank top under it). I want all of my pieces to be easy to wear and interchangeable.
I have similar shopping rules!
1) I must love it
2) I must need it
1-2 exception) If I need it by a certain date for a specific event, I don't have to love it
3) Classics must be decent quality; trendy pieces should be inexpensive
4) If I look at it online 2-3 days a week and after a month of doing that, it goes on sale, I can buy it even if I don't need it
5) If I think it is a classic piece that fills a void in my wardrobe, but I'm not sure how often I'll wear it, I buy an inexpensive version before investing in an expensive one. Aka I'm getting fake tall brown leather boots this fall to see how often I wear them before buying real leather boots.
I'm currently on the hunt for a white button-up, which is difficult as a petite busty person, and a black cardigan, equally difficult.
You are an super organized shopper!
Thanks! And yes, I so agree with that. I love things that I can wear a normal bra with!
My rules were born of necessity! After graduation, I lived in seven houses/apartments in five cities in three countries in 4 1/2 years. Living primarily out of two suitcases meant I learned a lot about prioritizing what to buy. As my cheaper clothes have slowly worn out, I've attempted to replace them with a small quantity of greater quality clothing.
Yes!
Haha, you had to mention Finding Nemo now I'm going to have the line "Hello, I'm Bruce" in my head all day!
I love the top and your shopping rules, I'm down to 35ish items in my closet and I'm focusing on a capsule wardrobe I have a few items that I want to replace in the next 6 months to a year, like my black dress pants that just don't fit well, and a couple of other things but for the most part I'm happy with the few clothes that I have.
(I know this is an old post but found it through your twitter) I never tried Stitch Fix because I thought it was monthly and I don’t need new clothes often with my capsule wardrobe. Might have to look into it. LOVE that top, though! It suits you perfectly!
Yes! I know. I LOVE that you can just sign up for a box whenever you want (and not commit to anything monthly!! You should try it! It is so fun – I get a couple a year!
