Sarah’s Bridal Shower Cake

Two years ago I decided I was going to be cute & homemakery and make the cake for my little sister’s bridal shower. This year, I felt like I needed to continue the tradition and whip up something for my other baby sister’s bridal shower (I have a thing for traditions!!) Here is something you should know about me, I only make a cake once every couple years (see a pattern) so saying I am confident in my cake baking skills is an understatement ๐Ÿ˜‰ (ps: that was completely sarcastic!) Anyways, I am mega into the naked cake look these days and so I tried my hand at it…. and it doesn’t really hit the mark but I’m shockingly surprised by how cute it still turned out and how good it tasted.

HOW TO

The Cake:

To make the cake I used a box mix from the store! I mostly shamelessly use box mixes because it helps me feel less stressed about making a cake and saves me SO much time. Also, you can find box mixes with better ingredients! Then I used two 6 inch cake pan rounds to bake the cake in!

The Icing:

This is where it is at! I love cake mixes but am not a fan of canned icing. I love to make my own because it makes me feel like Betty Crocker and it tastes way better!

  • 1 Cup (2 sticks) room temperature unsalted butter
  • 4 Cups powdered sugar
  • 1 Tbs vanilla
  • 4 Tbs milk (or half & half to make it more creamy)

Mix it all together in a kitchen aid or with a hand mixer and enjoy!

The Topping:

Okay, so this cake only looks really great because of the cake topper & decoration. I love the floral greenery look so I picked up these fresh flowers at the grocery store. I added the Best Day Ever cake topper from Emily Steffen Shop to really make it all pop! PS: The cake plate is Minted and the Mr. & Mrs. Plates are Design Design.

YAY for weddings and little sisters! XOXO
