Ask Elizabeth: One thing I have always loved about your blog & Instagram is your consistent photography. How do you achieve that? How do the photos you take inside & outside feel like they go together? I can always tell when your photos show up on my feed!
YAY! Photo editing chat! Well first off, this feels so good to hear so thank you! I have worked for some time now ( years even) to create a style for my photography that feels like me. I know that as the years go by, I’ll change the way I edit but I am super into the way things look now.
This was not always the case and it took lots of playing around and trying new things. Bruce (and many of my friends) can attest to my journey. They know how many times I’ve struggled over my “editing style” or just not been thrilled with the way my instagram was looking.
One of the things I really wanted to marry in my Instagram feed was my phone photos and my DSLR photos. I love my camera and I take it everywhere. I love the quality and style of photo I can get from my Nikon z6. But I also talk A LOT of phone photos. Sometimes it is just easier to snap a quick photo on my phone.
I used to only post phone photos and the as I got into photography, I started only posting my DSLR photos. I felt like I couldn’t go back to the phone photo life even when I was getting some of the most adorable photos on my phone (like this one!!) So I worked on finding a way to make presets that matched for Desktop Lightroom and also for the free app on my phone!
THEN after months and months and months of asking, I finally said yes! (If you said “Eugine” in your head after that sentence you may be watching as much Tangled as I am these days – it is Hilde’s current favorite!) But really, after so many people asking, my friend Ashlee and I came together and put our presets into one package to sell.
You can find our website here – AE Photo Presets. Right now we have one pack and that is our Radiant Pack! It includes the presets we use on ALL our photos both on our phones and on our computers!
The way I achieve consistency is using these presets to start my photo editing. Then I adjust colors or brightness as needed. Sometimes indoor photos need a lot of brightness added to them and sometimes outdoor photos need some taken away. We made a quick video on how we use a preset and make minor edits to make our photos look consistent on our feed and in our portfolios!
So long story short, the answer is presets! And yes, I sell the ones I use if you are interested too!
