We have a name! Millie Bea is baby #2! We have known her name for quite some time now but am only getting around to announcing it now! Haha. There have been some “Easter Eggs” around here in Instagram stories, social posts, and blog posts which some of you caught onto and it was always fun getting replies from you about her name.
Bruce and I like to settle on a name as soon as we can. We love to be able to refer our babies by their names in conversations, plans, and prayers! Typically we lay out all the options, throw around names in the car and when we’re hanging out and then just narrow them down. With both Hilde and Millie the names took more than the others on our list. We kept bringing them up and measuring them next to the new ones. And that is when you know! After all that, we share it with friends and family so the cat is out of the bag and I don’t have to worry about keeping secrets! lol.
Millie (pronounced Mill-ee): GENTLE STRENGTH, BRAVe, industrious
Millie is a nickname for several other names but for our little girl, it will just be her name! We love names that are already shorted and for some reason we also just are drawn to names that end in the “ee” sound. In fact, we both frequently call each other Brucey and Bethie – so we do it to names that don’t even have it! While Millie has a million variants and histories, we did find it on a Scandinavian list which is where we got Hilde’s too!
Gentle strength, brave, and industrious. I love all these things. I’m reminded of the wife in Proverbs 31, she is all these things too. And while “industrious” sounds very industrial revolution like, I think it is actually pretty beautiful to work with what you have!
Bea (pronounced bee): she who makes happy , Joy
Before we knew Millie’s first name, we knew her middle name. Hilde is named after my grandma (Joy) and myself. So if we were going to have another girl, we wanted to name her after Bruce’s side of the family specifically his grandma! Grandma Bea (short for Beatrice) is dear to us all and we just love her name! Since Hilde has a short middle name and we only call Grandma Bea by her nickname, we thought Bea would be an adorable middle name.
Ironically it also means joy which is Hilde’s middle name! Both these girls bring us such joy and it has been so fun to watch Hilde grow into her name. We cannot wait to meet Millie and see who God created her to be!
I’m a huge fan of these simple photos we took in the girls room before we moved stuff in. The sign matches one we have for Hilde and I cannot wait to continue working to get this room ready for our two girls. This season is chaotic but I’m thankful we’re on baby #2 for this whole transition. I don’t think I would have held it together this well if we had nothing ready for Hilde at 33 weeks! HAHA!
If you missed Hilde’s name story, here it is!
