Colorado Community
one of my favorite things about my Colorado is the closeness to adventure. an afternoon trip to the mountains is not a big deal. while i sometimes dream about what it would be like to move away to somewhere warmer, near a beach, or Europe-ier, i know i would miss this.
i would miss the mountains, the blue skies, the constant sunshine, the dry air, (the lack of bugs!!), and the people. bruce and i have dreamed about places we would want to live and be giggle dreaming up our lives in that new place but one HUGE thing always holds us back. people. i know there are people everywhere but my people i treasure so. both of our families live in Colorado Springs and we are able to have monthly family gatherings. also, our community group calls this place home and they are another extension of our family – in fact we see them much more! they are our day-to-day best friends. birthdays, weekends, small group, coffee dates, babysitters, bible studies, hospital visitors, meal makers. we do it all. when we moved back after college four years ago we all started meeting weekly because we wanted community. since then, people have joined and people have left but the core of us are still faithful as many weeks as we can be.
so Colorado holds me back. and the people hold me back. but i am so thankful for that. sometimes a reason to stay is so much more powerful than a reason to leave.

i love my people here in tennessee, and the mountains, and the rivers. i don’t like the bugs. 😉

i always felt a strong sense of community when visiting colorado. i love how people dress in LA. that sounds weird but, i can wear sweats to dinner if i want. or i can wear my fanciest dress. to the same restaurant. and no one cares. it’s fantastic! as someone who gets major anxiety about what to wear (silly, i know) and how i’ll fit in, this is definitely a perfect place for me 🙂
oh I can’t tell how much I agree with “a reason to stay is so much more powerful than a reason to leave”. People of Karachi are quite busy in general (big city problem) but a sense of connection with your land is so attractive :’)
Yes! Community is something that stretches location and city boundaries. There is always something special about home no matter where that home is!
First, I had so much fun during our google hangout! For Reals! Second, I love close communities. I think I have mentioned it before but finding a strong community here is difficult. We do love our small group though and we cherish the relationships we have near and far!
It does take time and I think that is what is so hard about it. We have had our community group for four years and are finally starting to be more open and real!
“sometimes a reason to stay is so much more powerful than a reason to leave.” that pierces deeply. i’ve been struggling with that lately; adventure looks like it’s happening everything except where i live and i want it. but detroit is what i know and where my family is, and today i think that’s enough for me to stay right here.
Yes! I so agree. Wanderlust is the theme of the online blog world but I feel that it can really create uneasiness and disappointment in our hearts. IF we are always wanting something new, we miss out on what we have!
