Book Reviews

Read in September

Another day, another month! Just a handful of reads today but one of them is a big accomplishment – I finally finished my Bible in 3 years reading plan and finished The Abide Bible! Wahoo! I don’t have much in me for a huge intro right now – life is wonderfully busy with back to school and want to get this posted in the short time I have available!

Homeschooling: You’re Doing It Right Just by Doing It by Ginny Yurich

5 Stars: I really love Ginny Yurich and have been inspired by her approach to homeschooling. I have read her other books and was excited to pick this one up as well. This was a great nighttime read as we started our third year of homeschooling. It is encouraging, validating, inspiring, and overall a wonderful read for a homeschool mom. Unlike other homeschool books, you cannot read this one too late – it is great for all stages of homeschooling. I also added a dozen more books to my tbr list as this book is packed with resources! I will now be recommending this book to other homeschool families!

“Homeschooling, far from being merely an educational choice, is a profound act of faith in the natural capabilities of our children and ourselves.”

All That It Takes by Nicole Deese

5 Stars: I read the first book in this series in February and finally got around to reading the second! I love it just as much as I did the first. Nicole Deese does an amazing job at creating an engaging storyline that feels real and authentic. After meeting both Miles and Val in book one, it was wonderful to see their story and watch them fall in love. Also, after working in a pregnancy center myself, I loved that part of the story! I do hate that middle part/ lack of communication drama that happens in contemporary fiction romances – but it gets figured out! Great read!

The Rules of Falling for You by Mollie Rushmeyer

4 Stars: This book said it was for fans of Austenland and while I haven’t read the book yet, I do love the movie! This modern rom-com had enough of a twist (the regency addition) to entice me and it was overall adorable. I can roll my eyes with miscommunication (please just use your words) but thankfully there was not too much of that! You know how it will (or should) end right away, but there were some twists I didn’t see coming on the journey which was fun! Overall, a clean & fun rom-com!

The Abide Bible, NET

5 Stars: I got this Bible nearly three years ago and shortly after that decided to read it from front to back. It took me longer than a Bible-in-a-year plan, but I did finished! While I don’t love a new translation for memory verses, I did love reading familiar verses in an unfamiliar translation! I also loved ALL the art. Honestly, I could have done with more of it. I enjoyed learning about some historic paintings and artists. I also truly enjoyed using the art to help meditate on the scriptures. This is a beautiful Bible and I loved marking it up.
