Smores

As a Colorado girl I grew up camping with my family and going to camp. When I think back on my summers, I cannot remember a summer that didn’t involve some kind of camp! Church camp, Girl Scout camp, Eagle Lake Camp, Science camp – I did them all. My dad worked for CCCA (Christian Camp and Conference Association) for a large part of my childhood so we had the opportunity to travel and experience so many camps around the USA.

My love for Colorado, for nature, for community, and for campfires all started there. From an early age, I knew what a Smore was. It is just common Colorado culture to sit around campfires and roast marshmallows. Sing songs, tell stories, laugh, and run away from the smoke trails.
My siblings have a home with their four children in the mountains. With land, dogs, horses, sticks, and campfires. It is not far to get there and escape the city. It bring back all those memories of growing up – of the camp life. Even still, I cannot imagine a campless summer or a summer gone by without one smore made. And I love that my nieces & nephews get to grow up with that love of nature and that world of camp.

So great!! I love s'mores…even to the point of "cheating" by warming marshmallows in the microwave (so not the same thing, but still!). 🙂 And I found out a bit too late that this past Sunday was National S'mores Day!!

Being outdoors and creating memories {in the presence of s'mores} is the best. This is one of the ways we spend quality time in our family – just enjoying the weather on a back porch or campground. I think we may need to make s'mores this weekend, too! Thanks for sharing 🙂

As a child & young teen I enjoyed being outdoors for bonfires, camp outs, & such. Having my siblings, family, & friends around made it even better. Then you grow up, oh to be a kid again! 🙂
