One of the best thing about summer is baseball. There is just something so nostalgic, American, and wonderful about the sport! There are songs, stories, novels, movies, and museums all dedicated to the sport. And as a history nerd, you cannot help get caught up in the tradition that dates back so far!
Bruce & I are Rockies fans true & true (despite how terribly they are doing this season) but we cannot always make it up to Denver for their games. We have a minor league team in our city and we love grabbing a couple games.
This year we took our nephew on a birthday date with Aunt & Uncle! It was an absolute blast! We ate baseball food, Bruce (a former player) taught him everything to know about the game, and I taught him all the cheers and songs that baseball crowds chant in unison!
We love birthday dates because they give something so much more than a toy that finds its way to goodwill after a couple years – it gives memories. The experience of going to a game, sitting in the fancy seats, singing with the crowds, learning about the game. He will be able to carry those memories with him the rest of his life and it is so fun to help him build his experience bank!
DO YOU TRY TO MAKE IT TO A GAME EVERY YEAR?
I know. I know!
Yep! So fun!
This is such a great idea to do with your nephew. Some of my favorite birthdays have been when I've celebrated by doing an actual "something" not just getting gifts. One of my favorite most recent birthdays was when my then-boyfriend, now husband, took me to the wild animal park in San Diego for my 25th birthday!
