Earlier this week I told Bruce that for the first time ever, I wasn't very excited about my birthday. Not because of the age, but because of the quarantine. I am the type of girl who likes to go big or go home for my birthday. Like weekends away (our trip to Buena Vista and our trip to Canon City), eating out for all the meals, going to Rockies games or Botanic Gardens or anything fun outside of the house. But this year I felt like I couldn't go big and so I would have to go home (aka stay ... continue reading...

Peach Pavlova
It's peach season and we love it! Peaches are one of my favorite fruits. They are delicious and nostalgic all at the same time. When I turned five I asked for a fruit tree for my birthday and I got one (that story is over here) and it was a peach tree. Now not only do we enjoy all the local peaches this time of year, we also get some backyard ones as well off the tree in my parent's backyard! Pavlova is a dessert that I discovered in Norther Ireland when I studied abroad in college. It's one ... continue reading...
Tupperware Memories
Thank you Tupperware for sponsoring this post. My mom always jokes that the Tupperware cabinet was our favorite toy chest! I can still vividly remember exactly where it was in our house, and nothing in there was off limits. We could use whatever was inside to drum on, chew on, or roll onto the laminate floors in the kitchen. As we got older, we used it to create sandcastles in the sand box, store bugs we caught, and make our own pitchers of kool aid. Tupperware products made life easier for my ... continue reading...
Disneyland Day #2
Disneyland Day Two - and we are still running around the parks like crazy people! haha. Looking through these pictures most of them are from waiting in line or eating food because those are the only two times we really slowed down at all! A Disney World trip allows for more downtime but two days at Disneyland does not as much. Especially when you are hanging out with your younger, more youthful, baby siblings! It was also HOT HOT HOT. The ice cream we ate at the Cozy Cone was essential to our ... continue reading...
Disneyland Day #1
I've started taking my camera to Disney last year so now we are starting a collection of photos on the blog. It is no hidden thing that we love Disney and somehow keep finding ourselves in Disney each year. This October we made our way back to California for a Disney adventure (see last October Disney.) It turned into a little sibling trip without Becca & Matt (we miss you guys!!) who were going to Kenya instead (good choice!) We happened to go to LA in the middle of a heat wave .... it was ... continue reading...
The Eclipse 2017
Our "Eclipse 2017" trip was unlike any other we have taken before. It is somewhat hard to put into words because while we are adventure lovers, we are PLANNED adventure lovers. We like going places we know, or know where we are going to stay, or have an idea of how long it will take us to get somewhere. We can be flexible but we still have a plan of action. Myers-Briggs wise, both Bruce and I are "J"s - we operate out of plans. It is how we communicate with each other and interact with the ... continue reading...
Strawberry & Watermelon Sorbet Cocktail
Thank you Perrier for sponsoring this post. All thoughts and options are my own! I finally pulled out my ice cream maker from my bottom cabinet and set out to make watermelon sorbet. I love making ice cream recipes but for some reason this summer my maker sat unused. We were busy, traveling, working, doing a million other things. That's okay - I could let it get me down (think of all the ice cream I could have made) but really, some seasons just require different things. Despite my lack of ice ... continue reading...
Being Foodies in Wichita, KS
When I asked my friend Meredith what there is to do in Kansas she replied with "eat!" She was right, especially because we visited in July when Kansas is hecka hot. So not only do you eat, but you eat indoors! We had a lot of fun hopping around town and visiting some of the Wichita local eats & drinks (because you know we WILL find a new brewery to go to!) So really, without further ado - here are all the places we ate at and all the photos we took! Hopping Gnome Brewery Let's start off ... continue reading...

This post is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group® and ProYo, but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #ProYoHighProteinIceCream http://my-disclosur.es/OBsstV Have you heard of ProYo? I just discovered them the other day at King Soopers when grabbing groceries for our family getaway to the mountains last weekend (see here!) ProYo High Protein Low Fat Ice Creams are just like their name suggests - guilt free indulgences. As summer comes comes upon us so ... continue reading...
Snapshots from Cocoa Beach
I was looking through my files on my computer (files and files and files of photos ;) ) trying to find a photo to post of my mommy for her birthday (and yes, I am a 28 year old who still faithfully calls her mother mommy!!) Whenever I do that, I get caught in memory lane. And I also find all kinds of other things - like the photo I want to post of my sister Sarah on her birthday next week... I mean, have you seen the featured image of this blog post?!!? Back to my point, I realized I never ... continue reading...
April Showers
LOCATION: Garden of the Gods Overlook OUTFIT DETAILS: 1969 True Skinny Ankle Jeans || Marled Chunky Crewneck Sweater || Puffy Vest (Similar) || Chaco Boots On April 1st we woke up to snow. The heavy, wet, spring snow! I love spring snows because they make the best snowballs. They also melt like an ice cream cone in July. The day after these pictures all evidence of snow was gone and we were walking around in t-shirts - that's Colorado for you! I really think that is ... continue reading...
The Best of 2016
Every year (2015, 2014, 2013) I take some time to "take stock." To look back on the year that has passed us by. This year has been monumental for Oak + Oats. It marks the year that I went full time as a blogger and it shook a lot of things up. We traveled more than ever, I got a full frame camera switching to Nikon, and I chopped all my hair off and watched it grow back ;) How easy it is to rush into the new year. We hate change yet love it all at the same time. A new year brings new hope and ... continue reading...
Snapshots from Nebraska
This post brought to you by Nebraska Tourism, Visit Nebraska, & Nebraska Events. The content and opinions expressed below are that of Oak + Oats. Bruce & I just got back from a trip to Omaha & Lincoln for an extended weekend away. It lined up with Bruce's birthday and so it made for a perfect reason to get away and do something new. We've had a somewhat unspoken goal to work our way through the United States (and the world since we've never been out of the country together) - ... continue reading...
Snapshots from SoCal
Our time in California was too short - five days can fly by so quickly. We stayed in the LA area the entire time because there was so much to do in that area. While we were planning, we thought about flying into LA and then flying out of San Francisco making the drive in our rental car up the coast but we just couldn't fit it in and didn't want to feel like we were rushing too much. All that to say, our trip left us hungering for more. More California trips are now on our travel list - San ... continue reading...
Backyard Peaches
When I was five years old (give or take ;) ) I asked for a fruit tree for my birthday. It was the only thing on my list and I really wanted on. When it came to my birthday, my parents gave me the great news - I got to go pick out & plant a fruit tree! My mom remembers this story way better than I do, but apparently at the tree store we were informed that peach trees had the most hope for fruiting in Colorado because they didn't need any other trees of it's type near by to help cross ... continue reading...
Floral Romper Style
LOCATION: The Broadmoor Outfit Details: Floral Xhilaration Romper || Sofia Sandals || Madewell Tote || Colorado Collective Volume II || Mountain Necklace We went for a summer stroll around the Broadmoor over the weekend. I've been craving anything cold on these hot, hot days and the Broadmoor has the best ice cream (that's not homemade ;) ). I was also able to pick up the most recent volume of the Colorado Collective which was really fun! I already love everything local & creative but ... continue reading...
Snapshots from Cleveland
We were in Cleveland for three days and we made sure to pack it with as much as possible so we could see all the things! We also had wedding festivities to attend! We asked friends & searched the interwebs to figure out what to do around town on our free time and we think we hit up some good spots! Places to hit up when in Cleveland: It was a whirlwind of a trip, but one beautiful wedding, a million pictures, and some memories later, we are home. It is so fun to see how ... continue reading...
#sandwiching
My baby sister spontaneously drove into town last week and we decided to make the most of it! The timing was crazy but perfect as my brother is home between college & studying abroad and my other sister's finance just got a job in town and will be spending the summer here as well! So really we were all in the same place at the same time (besides my dad who was at work during these pictures and my sister's husband Matt who still had to work this week) and that rarely happens! We practically ... continue reading...
