We’ve been doing a lot of projects with our baby girl on the way. And the list of things to get done before her arrival is still pretty long. A lot of them are the obvious nursery related to-dos but so many of them are projects we’ve wanted to get done and now feel the push to actually do. Not to mention we have to rearrange our whole house to make room for the nursery and we are losing storage space in the process.
We have some storage in our house – some being the keyword. We live in a town-home which means no garage or a yard storage space. So that leaves us with small closets in each bedroom… and creative thinking. There is this weird space in our house that we have turned into the pantry. I kinda assume that is what it is supposed to be, although it does look like it could have held the washer & dryer at one point (we made a space for them in the basement when we finished it!)
Woof, clearly it needs some help. And clearly that carpet needs to be ripped out & replaced with wood flooring – that’s another item on the list! Just FYI, I’m completely embarrassed to show you that my pantry currently looks like this. But just being real over here – if you thought I had it all together you now know that was a silly misunderstanding! hahaha. 😉
Since I didn’t really know where to go from here (obviously if this is what we’ve been doing nearly 6 years), I reached out to California Closets and scheduled a consultation. I worked with Jessica Ballestero and got some great feedback on this space!
She agreed with me that there is a ton of wasted space and put together a 3D schematic of what she proposed to fix this mess. One big thing was more shelving & having the shelves closer together to eliminate wasted space between them. The second big thing was to add freestanding organizational bins, baskets and containers to help keep things organized and not falling all over the place.
Lastly (and I am excited about this idea) Jessica encouraged me to add upper shelving on the left wall for cleaning supplies and some hooks below for the cooking utensils that are currently hung. The rest of that space would be for the garbage bin and vacuum. I hadn’t thought to organize the closet this way before and I am excited to get some work done in this space before baby girl comes!
