DIY Americana hanging succulents

DIY Americana hanging succulents - perfect for the 4th of July!

I’ve been loving the look of hanging succulents for awhile now so I decided to do something about it. I found these great Transform Mason Wide Mouth Rope Handles that are perfect for hanging mason jars and so the plan began! Succulents (and cacti) are easily some of my favorite plants. They are not very needy and you can forget about them for awhile and they usually don’t get too mad at you (unlike my tomato plant that makes me water him multiple times a day in this crazy summer heat! 😉 ) 4th of July is also right around the corner so I wanted to add some Americana flare to these jars!

When planning a hanging succulent garden it is important to remember lighting – they need to be in a brightly lit area. They are not too needy but they do need brightly lit spaces. This corner in my home between the two windows is perfect for a little hanging succulent garden because they will get all the sun they could want while still being indoor plants. I ended up picking out three cacti for this hanging garden because they were tugging at my heart strings at the garden center (and we know this girl already has all the succulents you could imagine! haha.)

Adding the Americana feel to the jars was actually easier than I imagined. I felt like a kid again getting out my paint set and laying out paper towels so that my spills wouldn’t ruin anything 😉 Depending on your artistic skills, you can go to town with this part but I opted for the simple yet bold look. I made two tags the same with blue tags with white stars and had my middle plant bring the red to complete the look.

The Americana jars are perfect for the upcoming holiday and I am not sure if I will keep the theme year round or update it for all the holidays. We’ll see how ambitious I am when Thanksgiving comes around! Either way, they add a fun statement and I love getting these decorations up in time for all our holiday festivities!

WHAT YOU NEED:
  • 3 Transform Mason Wide Mouth Rope Handles
  • 3 Wide Mouth Mason Jars
  • Simply Art Acrylic Brush Set
  • Simply Art Acrylic Paint Set
  • Transform Mason Wooden Tags
  • Simply Art Wood Stars
  • Hot Glue
  • Succulents (or Cacti)
  • Potting soil
  • Thin ribbon
  • Wall anchors (I used coat hangers)
HOW TO:
  1. Add the Transform Mason Wide Mouth Rope Handles to the jars.
  2. Re-pot the succulents into the jars.
  3. Paint the tags. Feel free to get creative with your painting! Or you can just keep it simple like me.
  4. Let tags dry completely.
  5. Glue on Stars.
  6. Using ribbon, tie the tags to the jars.
  7. Install the hangers  on the wall.*
  8. Hang up the jars.
  9. Enjoy!

*Remember to hang the succulents in a place where they will get a lot of light

Those are perfect for that little side wall space there! Plus, anything in a mason jar automatically looks adorable 😉 So fun!
