inspiration board // wooden floors

the hubs and i have been talking a lot lately about hardwood floors.
and now i am smitten…
1 // 2 // 3
4 // 5 // 6 // 7
“IT IS CRAZY HOW EASY IT IS TO DREAM YOUR MONEY AWAY” we were dreaming in bed the other night and bruce said that quote and it made me think. we dream about vacations. we dream about being debt free. we dream about making more money than our ministry salaries. we dream about hardwood floors, new countertops, and finished basements. we dream about treadmills and furniture. we dream about buying spontaneous gifts and writing large checks to our favorite ministries and missionaries. we dream like grown-ups. and we only have $100 extra each month that we spilt for our allowances…
“SAVE YOUR MONEY”– a famous quote from my childhood. we want to take care of the place the Lord has given us, increase the property value, make it a good investment, and live in a pretty home BUT we also need to be good stewards of our money.  i want to redo each room in my house to make it look like a magazine – but i can’t. and i don’t even want to (kinda) because i want to use my money to bless others.
WE STILL DREAM: we still dream about updates and adventures. we think that is part of the way the Lord created us. to dream. to invent. to make new things. to make things beautiful. to have adventures. BUT we need to watch the status of our hearts. some days i think my life would be perfect if we were handed a $10,000 check OR maybe if a stranger just paid off all my student loans. BUT the truth is the Lord is our provider. and He will take care of us. and no matter how much money we have or how perfect my home looks, He is still good. and there is so much more to Mr. & Mrs. Mayberry than a home.
ON THAT NOTE: we are saving our money for hardwood floors. in fact, we found a couple samples at our local home depot of wood laminate floors that a more durable, just a realistic looking & feeling, and loads cheaper than real hardwood. we brought them home. and we are eating out less and learning patience. we are surprised at how affordable this option is and we might be able to enjoy hardwood before we imagined.

do you have your favorite wood color of our samples?
i still keep going back and forth but i am pretty sure i am down to two….

  • This post is so true! My husband and I feel and dream the same…we'll talk about all sorts of things we want to do/buy when we're out of our college debt but then other things, close to our heart come up too. Like Compassion Intl or sending students on mission trips. My co-workers and I were talking yesterday even about this.
Bottom Line: it's all God's, the money and the things we do with the money…it's God's and it'll be spectacularly more when we live in that mind set.

    Great post! πŸ™‚

    ps: I like 2 and 5

  • i love you both. i like 6 and 7, but i just love darker hardwoods. πŸ™‚ plus, dirt doesn't show up as easily. πŸ˜‰ but for your house, i also really like the look of 5.

  • I think I like 2 and 7.

I also think this is a common problem for newlyweds. So hard to think about money and what your priorities would be. It's hard because we are still so young, I have to keep reminding myself that it won't always be like this… But if it is, we can trust god to provide.

  • THe other night I was dreaming that someday I want a whole wall of reclaimed barnwood on my wall! I feel like those walls of wood add SO much character!!!

  • I love hardwood floors too but I currently have carpet. A pro is that the house is warmer during the winters. =)

I'm your newest follower and would love for your to visit me often! =)

  • hey there-
