Getting Ready for Christmas

A couple weeks ago I introduced my Oak + Oats Holiday gift guide. I know that it is hard to start thinking about Christmas already but if you want to shop small, personal, and/or handmade, you need to get on it now. I am a huge fan of supporting small business during the holidays and that it why I started my Holiday Gift Guide. It is possible to buy small and buy smart.
Christmas is a season for giving, of course we should be generous all year round, but Christmas is an opportunity to give to everyone because it is the birthday of our Savior. Our gifts to friends, family, strangers, the needy are all gifts that we give to the Lord!
There are many ways to give this season and not all of them are monetary. As you prepare for the Christmas season this year, I challenge you to see how you can give generously with what you have been blessed whit this year. Maybe that is decorating your house so that families can enjoy it while they drive down your street, maybe it is baking cookies for all your neighbors, sending out Christmas cards to friends & family you don’t get to see as much any more, decorating your tree with your family and unwrapping new ornaments that remind you of 2014, reading Christmas stories to the neighborhood kids, caroling with your community group… The generosity in your heart is limitless, I am excited to see how you give this season!
Today’s first gift guide revolves around getting ready for the season! Home decor, stockings to stuff, ornaments to hang, Christmas cards to send, coffee to drink. Just some things to help you make your home and your heart Chritmasy!
ONE // Love these homemade ornaments from The Everyday Summit! I think it would be so fun to buy this “Cutting Down the Tree” ornament, wrap it up, and let your kids open it when you get home from picking out your tree! It can be the first ornament on the tree and so special! BEST NEWS this shop is part of the Gift Guide so you can get 15% off when you use the code: OATSGIFTGUIDE2014
TWO // Christmas Cards are a must on my list every year. I just love that is it a way to give a little gift to everyone! I wish I could buy a gift for all my friends and family ever but the budget doesn’t allow. Sending out cards is a way to say ” I love you and I am thinking about you” at an affordable price! LOVE me some Minted Cards. They are the only ones I keep on my fridge year round. Love the quality, designs, and final look!

THREE // Does your family (or growing family) need stockings this year? To me stockings are so important and lovely! I cannot get enough of the personalized stockings made by Sewing Sunflowers! This lady has skillz! BEST NEWS this shop is part of the Gift Guide so you can get 15% off when you use the code: OATSGIFTGUIDE2014

FOUR // Make a Christmas book to set out every Christmas on your coffee table. Take some time now (before the holidays) to make one from last year. Enjoy having it out on your coffee table Christmas day to look though. Then make it a tradition! I love how easy Mixbook makes it to create a book and the quality!

FIVE // Starbucks Holiday coffee, because why not?
SIX // State Christmas cards! Represent your beloved state when you send out your cards this year! I love the natural look of these state bird cards from Wooden Pencil. BEST NEWS this shop is part of the Gift Guide so you can get 10% off when you use the code: OATSGIFTGUIDE2014

EIGHT // Naptime Diaries has Holiday Post Cards! These are just the perfect thing to write on to let people know you are thinking about them this holiday season. Leave some in your coworkers mail box at the office, tuck a card in with fresh cookies for the neighbors, place in your kids lunch box to discover at lunch… the ideas are limitless. Side Note: Make sure you have the advent calendar this year! It will help keep the whole families heart in check! BEST NEWS this shop is part of the Gift Guide so you can get 15% off when you use the code: OATSGIFTGUIDE2014
