I am excited to share with you a story of community and friendship and invite you to be a part of the magic. Megan and I have been participating in Mary Beth of Annapolis & Company‘s instagram hashtag #theeverydayproject. It has been such a fun time exploring the community and challenging ourselves to find the beauty in the everyday. Being part of something like that is encouraging, inspirational, and uplifting – what a beautiful side of social media!
But that is not the only hashtag in our lives, in fact, we have had one going on for years – like it was the first hashtag I ever used (you can see that picture here!) This hashtag is #holdersnotfolders and we want you to join in on it!
“Holders Not Folders” is something that started in the Colorado mountains at Eagle Lake Camp. It was the idea, the notion, that community reaches out. We reach out our hands when we begin to pray instead of folding them in our laps. We reach out to pat a back and say well done. We reach out to hug and comfort the hurting. We reach out for help, prayer, and forgiveness. We reach out to laugh, to get to know each other, to understand. It is not holding hands all the time but the idea that our hearts are always reaching out instead of staying closed up.
When we started heading down the mountain we wanted to continue that idea of community and friendship. and thus the hashtag was born. Jessiann, Amelie, Laura, Laken, Gretchen, Megan, and I have been filling up the hashtag with our memories, weddings, adventures, moments, and lives. But this idea is something bigger than seven camp friends – it is the idea of Biblical community in the everyday!
